"Works Fine, but Not Entirely." 2009-10-18By

A couple years ago, we did a minor refurbishing of one of our bathrooms. One of the items was to replace the hardware in our combination fiberglass shower/tub unit. We chose the Price Pfister Marielle single handle tub and shower faucet, as listed here. It was installed by a professional plumber at a cost of over three times the cost of the hardware, but there seemed no other way to get the job done. Well, the first time we tried our new hardware the faucet just didn't work. We got only cold to luke warm water and almost no hot. As such, it was unusable. The plumbers came back (at no additional cost, other than our time), took the thing all apart and reinstalled it. They offered no explanation, but it then worked correctly. Obviously, the difficulty was with the plumbers, not the equipment. Since then, it has worked fine and we love the big shower head.
One other problem appeared and we have been unable to solve it. The spout to fill the tub has a little valve which is lifted as the water is running. The water is then diverted from going directly into the tub and goes through the shower head. The little valve can be clearly seen on the illustration. Well, it leaks. No matter how hard we try to pull it up and divert the water through the shower head, a certain amount of the water continues to flow out of the waterspout and directly into the tub. It doesn't appear to impair the shower in any way, but it's obviously some type of defect that we find annoying.

M. NeunerI added a basement bathroom using this fixture. The valve did not appear to rotate enough from Hot to Cold, but I thought this was part of the design. After installation, the valve does not allow Hot Water to flow therefore I either have to try and repair it or rip the whole unit out of the wall. It has not worked from the beginning.
